NATTY GREENEāS BREWING CO. wins medal at the great American beer festival
Greensboro, North Carolina - October 4, 2006 - Natty Greene’s Brewing Co. recently claimed a silver medal at the 2006 Great American Beer Festival Competition, the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States today. The top three winners in the competition’s 69 beer-style categories were announced September 30 at the 25th Great American Beer Festival Awards Ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.
Natty Greene’s Brewing Co. was recognized in the English-style Brown Ales beer-style category for its Old Town Brown Ale, a traditional full-bodied brown ale with a sweet, toasted malt aroma and a hint of baker’s chocolate. Natty Greene’s is a 2,500-bbl. craft brewery located in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina that specializes in high-quality craft beers that encourage folks to “Taste the South.”
“We’re proud to be a part of brewing in the South. Now, North Caroina will not only be known for barbeque – but great beer as well,” says Natty Greene’s Brewing Co. co-owner Kayne Fisher.
The 2006 Great American Beer Festival Competition winners were selected by an international panel of brewing experts from an impressive field of 2,443 entries received from 450 United States breweries. More than 1,200 breweries were invited to compete. “The Great American Beer Festival is the premier judging event for the American craft beer industry,” says Nancy Johnson, Festival Director. “It’s exciting, being the 25th celebration, that this is our biggest showing of entries. That’s proof positive that being chosen a winner, no matter if gold, silver or bronze is truly an accomplishment.”
