Greensboro, N.C. – October 16, 2012 - Natty Greene’s Brewing Co. has released their much anticipated
Red Nose Winter Warmer Ale this week. It is a 6.8%, full-bodied, winter warmer with a rich, dark malt
body, spiced with cinnamon, ginger and orange peel for festive flavor. This release comes earlier in the
year than usual as the seasonal brews have been shifted to allow Red Nose an earlier release and a longer
run to satisfy fans. Dispersion is already underway and the beer is expected to be available on draft and in
bottle statewide within the next two weeks.
An interview with Sebastian Wolfrum, Head Brewer at Natty Greene’s:
How many years has this beer been brewed?
It is now in its 8th year and was brewed with a different recipe up to 2006, in 2010 we started making it as
a blend of American and Belgian yeast batches.
What is special about the malt/hop/spice blend that you have chosen?
It is a dark red ale with mostly dark Munich malt and a spice blend of fresh ground ginger, cinnamon
sticks and orange peel.
How would you describe the flavor profile?
It has three strong flavor components: caramel malt body, ginger cinnamon aroma, and a distinct Belgian
yeast bouquet.
How has this beer changed over the years?
Originally it was focused on a big spice profile. Then it was scaled back to a malt-based dark ale with
hints of spice, to end up with this three pillar, city hall of a winter warmer.
Is it difficult to brew? How does it differ from others in the lineup?
It is a higher gravity beer, which leads us to do a double mash per kettle batch to gain efficiency. It is the
only blended beer in our line up where we build flavor elements by mixing batches to taste profile.
Anything to add?
This is the beer to be proud of and take home to the family occasions of the season. Red Nose is one of
our signature ales that say a lot about who we are as brewers.

Official press release: Natty Greene’s to release Cellar Series American Sour Ale
Greensboro, N.C. – September 21, 2012 – Natty Greene’s Brewing Co. has released their much-anticipatedCellar Series American Sour Ale this week. With only 240 bottles of this oak aged Flanders Red Ale produced, this beer is expected to disappear fast from the few independent beer stores (here is the list) in which it will be available across the state. Dispersion is already underway and all bottles are expected to be delivered within the next two weeks. The Cellar Series is a limited collection of unique beers that are crafted with carefully selected hops and malts. These brews are hand racked, numbered and sealed with wax. Past varieties have included an Imperial Stout and Belgian Dubbel, which were widely admired. Natty Greene’s launched its sour program in 2004 at their brewpub in downtown Greensboro, but as it grew in popularity, they began buying more barrels and eventually moved it into their production brewing facility a few miles away. The American Sour Ale begins its journey after completing primary fermentation as the flagship Buckshot Amber Ale. It is then inoculated with several bacteria including Lactobacillus, and Pediococcus, as well as a couple of varieties of Brettanomyces yeast to produce the desired sour characteristics. Head brewer Scott Christoffel explains that each barrel of beer develops at a different speed, requiring the artistic challenge of blending the beer once it is ready to be bottled. Christoffel says that, “to come up with the desirable sweet/tart blend that we are looking for in the beer, you have to watch the pH to make sure that the beer is not too attenuated, because if the beer is too sour, it becomes so intense that there is not enough malt to balance it, or sweetness to balance it.” The public are not the only ones excited about this beer release, as owner Kayne Fisher states, “Of all the great beers we make, this is the one I look most forward to. It takes two years to make. Lots of love and expertise go into this beer.” Be sure to call ahead to your local beer store to ensure that the beer has arrived and is still in stock. Lester and Fisher are both huge O.A.R. fans and say that they picked the group because of their ability to put on a fantastically engaging live show When asked why the concert series has remained free all these years, Fisher explained, “It was originally to promote the revitalization of downtown and do a huge event with the thought of introducing our brand. We wanted to attach out brand with cool, fun events. We basically made it our advertising and marketing budget. So when you come down to one of our free shows and try our beer, we hope that it will resonate into what you buy at the grocery store and what you support”. Lester encourages guests to, “Come have a blast. We’re going to raise some money for the North Carolina Brewers Guild, drink some good beer, hear some great tunes and enjoy beautiful downtown Greensboro”! We have changed our Greensboro pub menu for the first time since our opening 8 years ago! While many fan favorites are still present with new, revolutionary war themed names, the menu has been largely recreated. This has been thanks to customer feedback, and the direction of owners Kayne Fisher and Chris Lester. Their long-time dream has been to create a signature menu chock full of local items, utilizing Natty Greene's beer in recipes, and really capturing the southern spirit in their menu item choices. As Kayne will tell you, the menu has been, "localized, southernized & revolutionized"! A business with deep roots in Greensboro, the guys wanted to put a huge emphasis on their support of local ingredients like Chocolate Pops, Fisher’s Sauce, and Neese’s Sausage all made right here in town. With at least eight local sources so far, this list will continue to grow. We are now incorporating our beer in many recipes including our Old Town Brown mustard, Buckshot Amber and Southern Pale Ale chicken and pork marinades, General Stout steak sauce, and an inventive new crowd favorite, Hop Fries: loaded french fries finished off with a dusting of whole flower hops. As family friendly as ever, the menu ranges from fried chicken to ahi tuna to vegetarian items, and the children's menu now features bento boxes with a variety of small portions and a chocolate pop to keep the little ones happy. We want to invite the community to come try our new menu, and enjoy a Southern Pale ale on the patio this summer!
